Overview

Many people's first job search inclination is to check the want ads, send out a few resumes and make a couple of phone calls. However, even in the best of economic times, using this strategy you may have to send more than 100 resumes to land a single interview--not to mention securing the actual job.

There are other approaches that are much more effective and increase your chances of getting interviews at the companies you want to work for. Besides the classic approaches of networking and targeting companies, the internet and a burgeoning career management industry are promising alternatives.

In this step:

  • Networking
  • Targeting Companies
  • Recruiters and Headhunters
  • Internet and Newspapers
  • Career Centers and Job Fairs
