An icon of
peace and prosperity is no longer. It's destruction is the result of a
horrific act of violence.
Violence is
the last refuge of the incompetent.
-- Isaac Asimov

War
One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing;

that
to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one.

Express Yourself!
Expressing your
feelings of anger and hostility through letters and words is an excellent
way to heal and a more productive way to ease the pain than by inflicting
violence on innocent individuals just because they may have similar heritage
to the terrorists. Read a Florida man's letter to the perpetrator.

It is not discussion.
It is
not for the timid or weak...
Non-violence is hard work.

Why Build
a Sukkah?
The lesson is
that only a world where we all recognize our vulnerability can become
a world where all communities feel responsible to all other communities.
And only such a world can prevent such acts of rage and

History
of the World Trade Center Minoru Yamasaki, chief architect of the
World Trade Center
I feel this way about it. World trade means world peace and consequently
the World Trade Center buildings in New York ... had a bigger purpose
than just to provide room for tenants. The World Trade Center is a living
symbol of man's dedication to world peace ... beyond the compelling need
to make this a monument to world peace, the World Trade Center should,
because of its importance, become a representation of man's belief in
humanity, his need for individual dignity, his beliefs in the cooperation
of men, and through cooperation, his ability to find greatness.
The Difference
Suddenly the days are not our own.
There's a new "we" in the place of "I."
The map of our hearts has changed.
There's a new "here" in the place of "there."
And the pain is part of the difference.
And the anger is part of the landscape.
This island of grief is new to us.
The things that brought us here are not.
But the days are not our own.
In the place of me, I put you.
In the place of there, I put here.
That's the difference - that's all.
-- Mark Gelade

Forgiveness
allows you to move on with your life.
It does not bring back those from the dead. However, it does allow you
to say, "I am not going to let this destroy me. I will survive and
make the best of it." I found that the death penalty does not solve
anything. I know this for a fact because I witnessed the execution of
one of the two monsters that killed my sister. When it was over, I still
found that my sister was dead. I did not feel what I had hoped to feel--they
call it "closure."
Most victims
of violent crime don’t feel closure when their perpetrators are punished.
They need to look inward for peace and healing and not outward with hate
and violence. The best way to accomplish this is through forgiveness ...

Forgiveness Study
Victims who harbored
bad memories and nursed grudges towards their offenders suffered more
aversive emotional and physiological responses that may erode health over
time, while forgiving responses may enhance it.
Oklahoma
City Bombing
What twisted
mind could perpetrate such a crime against innocent humanity? Not a foreign
terrorist, but a citizen from America's heartland masterminded this act
of violence. Revenge neither liberates the families of victims nor ennobles
the victims of crime. Only forgiveness liberates.
